10,000 INC members in Cotabato walk for ‘Yolanda’
Around 10,000 members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in North Cotabato on Saturday joined the worldwide “Walk for Yolanda (Haiyan)”.
To ensure safety and security of the walk, operatives of the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) of the city government closed the roads starting from the city hall up to the INC Church along Daang Maharlika.
The Kidapawan City Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed K9 units and several personnel along the highway.
The Emergency 911 Center of the Kidapawan City LGU has also set up its command center to ensure they attend to needs of the participants, reports said.
The activity started with a prayer and participants started to walk around 7 a.m., Saturday.
The walk was simultaneously done in other parts of the archipelago and in other countries where there are INC members.
The activity, according to reports, was not compulsory. Those who can afford to pay P250 for the walk participated in the event.
The ‘Walk for Haiyan’ is considered the largest and biggest worldwide walk for a cause for survivors of Typhoon Yolanda in central Visayas.
Reports said the amount that would be raised through the walkathon will be allocated by the INC through the Felix Y Manalo Foundation as additional assistance to Filipinos devastated by the recent super typhoon.
