DPWH to check Quezon Bridge integrity after fire
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday mobilized its engineers to assess the condition of the Quezon Bridge in Manila which might have weakened after fire broke under it.
At the same time, the agency issued a traffic advisory that only light vehicles are allowed to pass through the bridge pending the result of the inspection.
Beth Pilorin, head of DPWH’s Public Information Division, said in a text message to reporters that DPWH needs to check the structural integrity of the bridge after shanties below it burned down.
In the meantime, DPWH advised the riding public and motorists to use Jones, McArthur, and Ayala Bridges going to and from the affected areas.
Stockpiling of vehicles should be avoided due to the weakened structure of Quezon Bridge, DPWH added.
DPWH has started the inspection of the structure after the fire gutted the two-storey residential shanty in Quiapo, leaving 70 families homeless.
