18 holidays set for 2014
Manila, Philippines – The year 2014 will have at least 18 holidays.
Based on Proclamation No. 655 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III on September 25, 2013, there will be 10 regular holidays and eight special non-working days in 2014.
Regular holidays for 2014 include: January 1, Wednesday (New Year’s Day); April 9, Wednesday (Araw ng Kagitingan); April 17, Maundy Thursday; April 18, Good Friday; May 1, Thursday (Labor Day); June 12, Thursday (Independence Day); August 25, Monday (National Heroes’ Day); November 30, Sunday (Bonifacio Day); December 25, Thursday (Christmas Day); and December 30, Tuesday (Rizal Day).
Special non-working days include January 31, Friday (Chinese New Year); April 19, Black Saturday; August 21, Thursday (Ninoy Aquino Day); November 1, Saturday (All Saints’ Day); December 24, Wednesday (Christmas Eve); December 26, Friday; and December 31, Wednesday (New Year’s Eve).
February 25, Tuesday, shall also be a special holiday for all schools in commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
The abovementioned list of holidays does not include the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha.
The observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha will be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.
