19,712 wanted persons nabbed in 1st 6 months
Police have arrested 19,712 wanted persons across the country in the first six months of this year, as authorities stepped up their operations against law offenders.
Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, spokesman for the Office of the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the figure is 18.3 percent higher compared with figures in the same period last year.
Police documents revealed 16,661 wanted persons were arrested from January to June last year.
“This only shows that we are really doing our best to further improve our services to keep our community safe,” said Mayor.
Of the arrest figure this year, 109 are on the most wanted list based on the order of battle from municipality, city, provincial, regional and national levels.
All of them carry reward money for their arrest.
Included in the list are couple Benito and Wilma Tiamzon, tagged as the two highest ranking officials of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.
The two were nabbed in Cebu allegedly while on their way to meet with ranking rebel leaders in March this year.
They are currently detained at the Custodial Center at Camp Crame in Quezon City, along with Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr., both facing plunder charges.
Also on the list are bomb experts Khair Mundos and Mihaji Hamjuda, Maguindanao massacre suspects Warden Legawan and Sajid Guimadel and Dionisio Daulong, wanted for the killing of Bukidnon broadcaster John Dignos.
Last March, alleged P6-billion housing scam suspect Delfin Lee was also arrested in a hotel in Manila.
