2,000 people join Earth day celebration
SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur – At least 2,000 people joined the celebration of the Earth Day here on Tuesday.
People here went to the San Francisco Gym starting 6:30 a.m. for the Earth Day activities.
They went to Mount Magdiwata and for the tree-planting activity.
Mount Magdiwata is the source of potable water to 27 barangays here and also one of the watershed areas in Agusan del Sur province.
Various programs and activities were scheduled to urge people to protect the environment and the remaining forests in the province and to lessen the impact of global warming and climate change.
Agusan del Sur Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza then appealed to Agusanons to strictly implement in their respective areas environment preservation and forest protection.
“We must inject in our hearts and minds that Earth Day is not only for today but every day,” Plaza said.
Earth Day is celebrated every year on the 22nd day of April. (Mike Crismundo)
