Man dead after being punched by village watchman in Abra


BANGUED, Abra – A man died after he was allegedly punched by a barangay tanod in Barangay Patiao, Peñarrubia, Abra.

Police Capt. June Saliw-an, Peñarrubia police chief, identified the victim as Renato Cabrillas.

Saliw-an said the suspect pacified Cabrillas who allegedly challenged some men to a fistfight in front of a store.

Cabrillas tried to punch the victim who retaliated and punched him thrice. 

The victim was seriously injured and taken by Barangay Patiao Chairman Dondie Baker to the hospital.

Cabrillas died while being treated and the suspect surrendered to the police.

The suspect said he did not intend to kill the victim but only defended himself. The suspect is under police custody and faces a homicide case.
