Police net 998 loose firearms in Western Visayas


ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 seized 998 loose firearms in Western Visayas in the first quarter of this year.

A total of 182 individuals were arrested for illegal possession of firearms. Majority or 809 firearms were deposited, abandoned, or surrendered.  

The PRO-6 said the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) confiscated 329 guns, followed by the Iloilo PPO with 188, Antique PPO with 105, Capiz PPO with 101, Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6, 96; Aklan Police Provincial Office, 92; Bacolod City Police Office, 41; Iloilo City Police Office, 34, and Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO), 12.

Police also seized 122 explosives.

The campaign against loose firearms is among the priority programs of PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky. “Let’s continue to account for the remaining loose firearms in the region to prevent these from being used in the commission of a crime,” said Wanky.
