First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and presidential cousin House Speaker Martin Romualdez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the P3.2-billion state-of-the-art medical facility on Thursday, April 25.

Romualdez said it is part of the legacy project of President Marcos for the Visayas.

An initial P500 million was allotted under the General Appropriations Act of 2023 for civil works through the efforts of Iloilo Rep. Janette Loreto-Garin and the First Lady, a WVSU law professor.

According to the office of WVSU President Dr. Joselito Villaruz, the medical facility aims “to increase the bed capacity to address the increasing demand as well as provide space for more specialty treatment and diagnostic facilities” and boost medical education and training.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will oversee the construction of the facility.
