Northern Samar town robbed of P1-M payroll money


TACLOBAN CITY – The disbursing officer of the local government unit of Lope de Vega in Northern Samar was robbed of P1 million for the salaries of job-order employees on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, in Catarman, Northern Samar.

The victim was identified as Veronica Ongsotto, 58, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Lope de Vega.

Police said Ongsotto had just withdrawn money from a bank and went to a fast-food restaurant to relieve herself against the advice of her driver and escort.

The driver and escort had just left for a gas station when a man onboard a motorcycle grabbed her bag before reaching the entrance.

The suspect fled and now the subject of a manhunt.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
