3,000–hectare production base to boost food security
San Luis, Agusan del Sur – The provincial and municipal governments are set to open the 3,000 hectares farm production base in barangay Nuevo Trabajo in this river town, officials said Friday.
Nuevo Trabajo has 220 hectares for corn, and barangays Sta. Inez and Masalang have 700 hectares.
The cultivated rice area is more than 20 hectares while 3,000 hectares are potential areas to be opened for production.
The wide area for production base at Nuevo Trabajo is programmed after the ground works of the 120 linear meter single lane Pre-Stressed Concrete Girder (PSCG) Bridge amounting to P45 million has been completed.
The bridge, which was recently turned over to municipal and barangay officials here, is the longest constructed throughout Mindanao under the Rural Infrastructure (RI) project of the Department of Agriculture’s Mindanao Rural Development Program 2 (DA-RI-MRDP2).(Mike Crismundo)
