4,185 rounds of ammunition confiscated in Coron port
Maritime authorities have confiscated eight boxes containing 4,185 rounds of ammunition of .40-caliber pistol in the Port of Coron, Palawan, a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) report showed.
Personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Coron found the ammunition with assorted clothes in Coron Port after these were unloaded from M/V Asuncion XI that was headed to Manila.
The PCG said that they were informed by a stevedore of Prudential Customs Brokerage Services Inc. (PCBSI) about the boxes loaded with ammunition and clothes.
The Coast Guard identified the consignee of the confiscated goods as a certain Judson Pe, a resident of Barangay Tagumpay, Coron as showed by the bill of lading of the cargoes.
These were not properly declared and had no pertinent documents and permits, PCG said.
Under Republic Act No. 8294, Pe is answerable to the unlawful disposition or possession of firearms ammunition, which has a penalty of imprisonment of six months and one day to six years and a fine of P30,000.
The items were turned over by CGS Coron personnel to the police for safe keeping and proper disposition.
