8,345 pass Police entrance, promotions examinations
Manila, Philippines – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) yesterday announced that only 8,345 or 25.28 percent of the 33,014 individuals passed the police examinations conducted on October 20, 2013.
Napolcom said only 2,560 or 18.96 percent of examinees passed the Philippine National Police (PNP) entrance test, a requirement for initial appointment to the rank of Police Officer 1 (PO1).
Only 5,785 or 29.64 percent of 19,514 examinees passed the promotional exams, it said. Among those who passed, 3,572 took the Police Officer exam, 1,994 took the Senior Police Officer exam, 162 took the Inspector exam, and 57 took the Superintendent exam.
Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Eduardo U. Escueta said the 29.64 percent passing rate in the promotional exams is 2.53 percent higher than the 27.11 percent passing rate in the promotional exams conducted on May 26, 2013.
Meanwhile, the 18.96 percent passing rate in the entrance exam is 7.15 percent higher than the 11.81 percent passing rate in the previous entrance exam.
“The significant increase in the passing percentage in the entrance and promotional examinations is an indication that the members of our police force are becoming more capable, effective and efficient,” said Escueta.
“This may also be partly attributed to the lessening of the number of test questions from 200 to 150 items which allowed the examinees more time to finish the exam,” he said.
The Napolcom has become stricter in the administration of the PNP Entrance and Promotional Examinations. Any examination irregularities such as cheating, impersonation, perjury or violation of examination rules are meted with either permanent disqualification or dismissal from service.
Moreover, the Napolcom uses a computer system that keeps track of the answer patterns of examinees to check whether or not an examinee has cheated.
The list of successful examinees is already posted at the Napolcom central office in Makati City and can be viewed at the NAPOLCOM website at www.napolcom.gov.ph.
Individual reports of rating will be mailed to all examinees. Verification of test results is on-going at the Napolcom central office and its regional offices nationwide.
