New rape case against Vhong filed
Actor Vhong Navarro is the subject of another rape complaint filed by a woman on Wednesday at the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office.
In a phone interview with “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” that aired Wednesday, the complainant’s legal counsel, Virgilio Batalla, said that the supposed rape happened in 2010.
“Ang biktima po ng rape ay may 20 taon para mag-file ng kaso. At ang kliyente ko ay apat na taon…kaya hindi gaano katagal iyon,” Batalla shared.
Asked why it took four years before a case was filed, Batalla explained, “Dahil siya ay nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob dahil sa mga nangyayari, iyong pangyayari na may nagsampa kay Vhong Navarro ng rape.”
Model Deniece Cornejo filed a rape complaint against Navarro last Jan. 29.
Navarro has denied the allegation, saying that he was merely set up by Cornejo and businessman Cedric Lee as part of an elaborate extortion attempt.
Navarro has since filed six criminal charges against Cornejo and Lee’s group: Serious physical injuries, grave threat, grave coercion, unlawful arrest, blackmail and serious illegal detention.
Batalla clarified that his client is not connected with Cornejo and Lee.
Alma Mallonga, Navarro’s lawyer, for her part, said that the new rape complaint was “not unexpected.”
“Hindi kami nagulat,” said she in a separate interview that aired on the same show. “Kasi intindi pa nga namin that this is just the first of others.”
She added, “Some weeks ago, Cedric (was) saying that he’s been talking to some women and I understand that his lawyer has said na mayroon silang pasabog.”
She also dismissed Batalla’s claim that Cornejo’s complaint inspired his client.
“If you’re saying that you were inspired by the rape complaint of Deniece, alam na natin na hindi iyun nangyari. You cannot witness a rape when the victim is not even there,” she said.
Mallonga described the new rape case as a distraction from their ongoing case against Cornejo and Lee.
She intimated that Navarro is aware of the new case and is ready to face the charges and prove his innocence.
