Actors ‘Affected’ by scenes in ‘Lihis’
As the buzz around GMA’s teleserye “My Husband’s Lover” continues to grow, a one-of-a-kind movie titled “Lihis” is about to hit the silver screens. A film garnering a lot of attention for the seriousness of its topic and the intimate scenes between its leads, “Lihis” stars two straight hunks in gay roles.
According to my sources, even before they started work on “Lihis,” multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan talked to Kapamilya actor Joem Bascon about the intimate scenes they needed to do. Because it is not easy to kiss another man when you’re as straight as an arrow, both Joem and co-star Jake Cuenca agreed to give it their all in the love scenes, if only to minimize retakes.
Jake and Joem have three important but controversial love scenes. The first, a fantastic love scene near the river under a beautiful full moon – their first time to be intimate. They also have a naked love scene inside the house, but the most provocative one shows them making love on a rock.
Shot for almost a day, both actors ended up with blisters on their feet from the sharp stones in the river. It was also shot in open air, the danger of being seen by kibitzers naked, rolling around and doing torrid kissing scenes high. According to a staff member, there was even a “Victory Joe” scene done by Jake that surprised the people on the set.
Direk Joel said the delicate scenes were handled very well and with utmost care. It did not come out as vulgar and, since it was done artistically, the two actors did not have any complaints about being compromised while shooting the scenes.
“During those times, it was forbidden in the movement to have a relationship between two men. That was why when the opportunity came for them to ‘become one,’ the love scene becomes too passionate and looks as if they wouldn’t want to stop and be separated. So we have to show how passionate the scene really was to show how much they really love each other,” said Direk Joel.
Those who had the chance to see the movie during a special press preview were surprised at the intensity of the love scenes; apparently, they looked as if they were really in love with each other. Both actors also admitted getting affected by their love scenes.
“It was first time for me to do a scene like this, that’s why I said I will give my all. I would do it right. I was afraid that if we won’t be able to do it right, Direk Joel might get mad and ask us to repeat the entire scene. After our shoot, I kidded Joem, ‘Let’s look for a girl,’” said Jake with a laugh.
“It’s a different kind of challenge because Jake is a friend. After the scene, I told Jake we ought not to see each other first because we might really fall for each other. But seriously, it felt good doing the scene but it was draining. You just have to give everything you’ve got to make the scene realistic. As an actor, you’ve got make sure that the scene turns out right,” Joem explained.
