MANILA, Philippines --- Over 200 fire volunteers from the City of San Juan took part in the Fire Olympics on Pinaglabanan Shrine in celebration of Fire Prevention Month this March.

The fire volunteers, hailing from 14 of 21 barangays of the city, took part in the Olympics, which tested their firefighting skills.

Among the events included in the Fire Olympics were the fire truck hose relay, use of fire extinguisher, and putting off chemical fires.

“The event is not only a competition, but also an opportunity to train the barangay volunteers in case of fire incidents, since they will be the first responders in the community,” said San Juan City Fire Marshal Chief Inspector Gilbert Dolot.

He also reminded city residents to always attend to their children and advised them not to play with matches, which is one of the common causes of fire in the city.

Moreover, Dolot, together with the city mayor also received from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) a brand- new Rosenbaeur fire truck.
