Let her go on with her life. She will learn the tough issues in life her own way. After all she is 28 years old, no longer a minor.
This was the advice of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago to the mother of movie actress Heart Evangelista whose relationship with reelectionist Sen. Francis ‘’Chiz’’ Escudero is now apparently on the rocks because her parents do not approve of her romantic liaison with the 44-year-old legislator.
The parents of Ms Heart had held a press conference to tell their side against their daughter’s romantic links with Escudero, himself a father of twins and separated from his wife.
‘’Maybe it is time for the family to let go of Heart because she’s is 28. if she hasn’t learned anything after all those series of boyfriends that the media has publicized, she’ll never learn from it. I guess maybe just – I told her mother I think the best thing to do is let go. She has to learn her lessons her way,’’ she said.
‘’The thing is I am close not only to Heart but to her family so I don’t want to take sides,’’ she said.
The lady senator conceded that the Heart-Chiz relationship now on the boil ‘’is a very highly emotionally-charged situation plus it will impact not only the political fortune of Chiz but even the marketability or the market appeal of Heart, so it has many, mnay consequences for the two parties involved.’’
One of the complaints of the parents is that Chiz exhibited ‘’uncouth behavior when he met Heart’s 70-year-old father who is nursing varied health problems.
Another is that the mother, a devout Catholic, could not see her daughter ‘’living in sin’’ with Escudero who has yet to get a Church annulment of his marriage to his estranged wife, Santiago told Senate reporters in a phone-patched interview.
‘’I think Heart is in a state of rebellion against her parents. She is doing the opposite and she is following a behavioral pattern with all her boyfriends. You know she is very beautiful and she’s very, very innocent and refreshing to deal with but at the same time, she is so simpatika, she is so attractive to other people precisely because she is unsophisticated in her world view,’’ she said.
What could she probably give as advice to Chiz?
‘’Amuin mo na lang niya yung mga magulang para wala ng problema. Kamdidato siya.nakikipag-away siya,’’ she said. (He should try to get into the good graces of Heart’s parents. He is a candidate but he is engaged in a row with the parents?)
Santiago said a man trying to get into the good graces of the girl’s parents is part of Philippine culture.
