POLANGUI, Albay - Team PNoy senatorial candidates asked government agencies on Friday to keep an eye on the implementation of projects funded by the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to ensure that there is no misuse of pork barrel funds.
Senatorial bets Edgardo"Sonny" Angara, Cynthia Villar and Bam Aquino sought the transparent and proper implementation of PDAF projects after millions of pork barrel funds were reportedly wasted because fake non-government organizations (NGOs) were benefitting from it with some projects yet to be implemented despite the fund allocation.
"Mabubuhay tayo kahit walang pork, mambababatas naman tayo, basta assure lang nila sa atin na yung constituents namin ay mabigyan nila ng serbisyo," Angara said in an interview in this second vote-rich province.
Angara said he is amenable to centralized allocation of pork barrel even as he assures there is no corruption involved in the identification of PDAF projects during their implementation.
"The corruption is on the implementation of the priject in the choice of contractors, kung may overprice, dapat clearly mahusay dapat ang overprice monitoring ng govt, dyan papasok ang COA, at other government agencies," he said.
Villar also made a pitch on the honest implementation of PDAF- funded projects, citing the need for implementing agencies to conduct a pre- audit on all programs.
"Ang nag iimplement dapat blame kung may misuse, bakit sila pumapayag. Ikaw ang mag implement then payag ka baka kasabwat ka," Villar said.
Meanwhile, Aquino expressed strong opposition to the proposed abolition of PDAF.
"I am not for abolition. PDAF can be used properly without any controversy," he said in separate interview.
He said those behind the misuse and delayed implementation of the PDAF projects should be investigated and prosecuted.
