7 hurt in Central Mindanao blast
Camp Panacan, Davao City - At least seven people were reportedly injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near an overpass bridge in Central Mindanao early Sunday evening, a sketchy report reaching the area command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMincom) base here Monday stated.
A flash report coming from Central Mindanao 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division also stated that the IED was placed by unidentified men along Quezon Boulevard in Koronadal City and exploded before 7 o’clock in the evening.
Passing commuters immediately extended help to the victims, who were immediately brought to the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital and Malaluan clinic for medical treatment.
A field report said the victims were hit by shrapnel. The Identities of the victims were not immediately available as of press time.
The impact of the blast left a big hole in the concrete overpass. The glass windows of nearby establishments were also reported to have been damaged. Authorities cannot still determine the identities of the perpetrators and the motive for the incident.
Some passersby in the area said a man was seen at the overpass minutes before the explosion, the police report stated.
“It’s a terrorist work,” said regional Army spokesman Col. Jonathan Ponce, who did not elaborate further.
He said a thorough investigation is still ongoing.
Earlier, a powerful bomb also exploded inside Husky Bus Terminal in Cotabato City.
No one was reported killed or injured in the Saturday attack, which took place shortly after midnight.
EastMincom Chief Maj. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer ordered all field unit commanders to catch suspected bombers in the area.
