Mowelfund marks 35th year
The Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund), founded by former Pres. Joseph “Erap” Estrada in 1974, marks its 35th anniversary today, March 28 with a program consisting of a holy mass, medical and dental services, entertainment, raffle of prizes, educational activities for members and their families to be held from 1-5 p.m. at the Mowelfund Plaza in 66 Rosario Drive, Quezon City.
Mowelfund has served more than 4,500 members through medical reimbursements, hospitalization, surgery and death benefits, livelihood, and alternative income opportunities and housing. Its educational arm, the Mowelfund Film Institute, has produced some of the most skilled and respected producers, filmmakers, writers and performers in both the independent and mainstream sectors of the industry since its inception in 1979.
The program will be highlighted by testimonials for Mowelfund’s institutional benefactors through the years. This is headed by the Metro Manila Development Authority for the Metro Manila Film Festival, represented by Chairman Bayani Fernando; the Erap Foundation, Inc. and the Presidential Social Fund. Other benefactors/awardees include Kuya Germs Moreno, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Film Development Council of the Phils., PCSO, the SM Foundation, QC Councilor Ariel Inton and Engr. & Mrs. Dionisio Salvador, Jr.
Mowelfund attributes its service record to its staunch benefactors and supporters including movie/TV personalities, producers, film industry practitioners and corporations which advocate social responsibility. Ms. Susan Roces has refurbished the National Artists for Film Gallery. German Moreno has established and maintained the Mowelfund Film Museum’s Paradise of Stars.
Mowelfund’s Board of Trustees is headed by Atty. Espiridion Laxa as Chairman. Other Trustees include National Artist Eddie Romero, Marichu Vera Perez Maceda, composer Josefino Cenizal, director Boy Vinarao and concurrent Executive Director Boots Anson-Roa. Star Treatment at Face & Figure Center
For generations, movie stars and other showbiz celebrities have captured the attention and admiration of millions not only for their special talents but, more importantly, for their glamorous looks and exciting personalities that contribute to their popular appeal.
For female stars, their pretty faces that radiate with charm combine with their fair, smooth skin and slim, shapely figures in transforming them into fabulous symbols of feminine pulchritude that attract men and women alike.
A woman, however, need not be a celebrity to acquire and experience the star-like physical beauty and glamour she has always dreamed of. Thanks to the wonders of modern medical science and technology, beauty care and preservation that used to be in the realm of the impossible can now be within the reach of every woman aspiring to turn back the hands of time.
Through an array of facial, skin and slimming treatments worthy of a star, Face & Figure Center Manila in Ortigas Center opens a whole new world of beauty enhancement designed to take the years off and transform a woman into a younger, slimmer and more beautiful person in as short as one hour.
In the first few months of its soft operations, the center was actively involved in several celebrity happenings through its sponsorship of the local concerts of international artists like The Happenings, The Buckinghams, Bobby Kimball (former lead singer of Toto), Matt Monro Jr., Joe “Victim of Love” Lamont, Bruce Conte (of Tower of Power), Rex Smith and Sheena Easton.
During these musical events, the clinic made its presence felt by undertaking a systematic promotions campaign through its booths at the Araneta Coliseum, PICC, Aliw Theater and other venues, where its team of medical aestheticians distributed leaflets and product samples among concert-goers.
Launched on Nov. 20, 2008 as a special highlight of the dinner-concert of Bobby Kimball at the Hyatt Hotel & Casino-Manila, Face & Figure Center officially started operations following the blessing of its clinic on Dec. 13, 2008, where Matt Monro, Jr. and his musical director Colin Jamieson and wife Pam were the special guests.
By then, it had already gained a stature as a rising aesthetic center that provides a range of aesthetic services fit for celebrities but at affordable prices.
