MSI X340 challenges the MacBook Air

Light, slim, aesthetic. This the MSI X340 X-Slim embodies. A lightweight notebook PC, it measures 0.6cm at its thinnest point, 2 cm at its widest and weighs 1.3kg with the battery attached.
The X340 has that fashionable curves in its design. The material is gentler to the touch compared to metal, and the paint finish is glazed and UV processed, creating the most simplistic yet modern styling.
The X340 is designed for users with multimedia requirements. It has a 16:9 cinematic 13” (33.02 cm) LED display, as well as the latest Intel Centrino Processor Technology - using Intel Core 2 Solo ULV Processor and Intel GS45 + ICH9M-SFF Chipset.
It delivers long battery life, innovative mobile solutions with unrivaled processor performance, stunning new HD capabilities, and great wireless connectivity (Integrated WiFi+ optional WiMAX, up to 450mbps 802.11 b/g/n).
It is also embedded with the LED power-saving backlight technology to provide better color, fullness and brightness in the total quality of imagery. Furthermore, the low usage of power can offer longer operating times.
The X340 is equipped with the ECO Engine power management system, so users can select freely from the five different modes suitable for their needs. The five modes include office, gaming, movies, presentation, and turbo battery.
Through various conditions such as the brightness of the screen and standby timeframe, the power consumption can be much more flexible, providing more hours of operating time. This escalates the productivity of the X340 as well as convenience for the users.
The built-in, high pixel webcam allows users to broadcast themselves live during teleconferencing, as well as capturing and recording every exciting moments.
The X340 also provides an entertainment interface which includes a 2-in-1 card reader (supports SD/MMC and various mainstream memory sticks) making data transfer to other device much easier. Technews decided to play matchmaker to the MSI X340 and you-know-who, since it got both units in the lab.
Apple’s MacBook Air measures 0.4 cm at its thinnest point, with a maximum height of 1.9 cm. It has a 13.3-inch (33.78 cm) LED-backlit widescreen display, a full-size and backlit keyboard, and a built-in iSight video camera for video conferencing. The trackpad has a multi-touch gesture support so users can pinch, rotate and swipe.
Powering the MacBook Air are (there are two setups to choose from) a 1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 cache, and includes (as standard features) 2GB of memory, an 80GB 1.8-inch hard drive, and Bluetooth 2.1.
As for the battery life, it can give users up to five hours of wireless productivity and includes AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi networking (which promises to deliver up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g). Apple has an optional MacBook Air SuperDrive, a compact external drive designed for MacBook Air that connects via USB port.
