Punchline

An abnormal summer

The House of Representatives holds heated debates over the issue of Charter change (Cha-cha) while the Senate majority and minority furiously quarrel over ethics.

Mayday! Congress is on fire! Calling sober legislators to the rescue!

***

Administration congressmen propose “economic” amendments to the Constitution but the opposition bloc decries a planned shift to “political” agenda and term extensions as deliberations progress.

A House divided — by suspicions and political “termites,” whew!

***

Speaker Prospero Nograles however vows that his bloc will only seek to allow foreigners to own land and, as to other amendments, "I will not allow that. That is not constitutional and legal.”

But could he stand his ground with Kampi’s sword reportedly hanging over his head unless and until he dances well to their tune?

***

“It is very obvious that all these talks on Cha-cha are meant to derail the preparations of the opposition for the 2010 elections. Apparently, it is a springboard for the controversial Cha-cha via constituent assembly,” Assistant Minority Leader Liza Maza alleges.

Lies and ploy exposed or merely “massaged” thoughts? The truth will come out very soon. Abangan!

***

The “Bagong Pilipinas, Bagong Pilipino” Movement headed by Bro. Eddie Villanueva of Jesus Is Lord (JIL) Movement however warns of mass and legal actions against Cha-cha/Con-ass that could swing the country back toward dictatorship.

Trouble brewing…Bless us Lord!

Meanwhile, “presidentiable” Sen. Manny Villar questions the authority and propriety of Senate ethics committee chair Ping Lacson and other presidential hopefuls to continue investigating him on the C-5 road controversy that allegedly benefited his subdivisions and real properties.

“It’s political rubout,” Villar’s camp shouts to grinning colleagues/competitors.

***

Villar takes a swipe at Sens. Lacson, Mar Roxas and Jamby Madrigal for their political motives while Lacson hits Sens. Villar, Alan Peter Cayetano and Aquilino Pimentel for prematurely leaking his committee’s order for Villar to appear.

Senate showdown worsens, intriguing the nation and raising our political fever.

On the other hand, Pagasa says the country will continue to experience an “abnormal summer ” of hot days and surprise rains apparently due to climate change.

Politics and climate change to disrupt our lives, he-he. A really abnormal summer.
