TV5 breaks TV duopoly with ‘Talentadong Pinoy’

Philippine TV is starting to be a three-way game as third player TV5 shakes up the broadcast landscape by breaking the two giant stations’ longtime duopoly in the coveted Top 10 slots of TV programs in terms of viewership ratings.

In fact, TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy,” one of the network’s original concept programs that is hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, has broken in the Top 10 and is now fighting head to head in the double-digit-ratings game with ABS-CBN’s and GMA-7’s Saturday primetime shows. Overnight household ratings released by AGB Nielsen Media Research’s MEGATAM (Mega Manila Television Audience Measurement) show that “Talentadong Pinoy” scored a 14.9% rating last April 4 against GMA-7’s “Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade 5?” (19.3%) and ABS-CBN’s “The Singing Bee” (15.2%). It also shows that despite a slightly lesser number of households, more people within the households are watching “Talentadong Pinoy” as it has a higher individuals’ share at 27% than “The Singing Bee” at 23.5%.

This can be viewed as a significant leap for TV5 because it shows that the network is indeed a strong third contender and that it is attracting more viewers who welcome TV5’s fresh programming alternative that is very different from the shows of the two giant networks.

“The TV5 team is extremely pleased with the ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ ratings. We are very proud of this achievement. We would like to recognize and thank our viewers for the support. Thank you very much for the trust you have given us. Rest assured that TV5 will come out with more quality shows like ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ to provide the viewers more exciting choices on TV,” says TV5 Senior Vice President for Brand Management Jasper Evangelista.

“Talentadong Pinoy” is expected to rake in more viewership ratings as host Ryan Agoncillo celebrates his birthday on the show with fiancee Judy Ann Santos and his closest friends.

“Talentadong Pinoy” airs every Saturday at 6 p.m. on TV5.
