Watching IT
Macho Men
For the past few months I have been seeing several television commercials hawking a certain brand of beer. Purportedly brewed for real tough men, this particular brand of beer is not for men that its manufacturer, or at least the company’s advertising agency, claims are sissy.
The TVCs portray men who make sure that their beer mugs are clean, or prefer to say terms of endearment to their loved ones as softies. Each of the television commercials ends showing those not deemed as man enough being crushed by a falling giant beer bottle.
These TV commercials seem to say that it is bad to be caring and to have a tender spot when you are a male member of the human species. Perhaps, being real men means one should not show gentleness and empathy for other people.
For goodness’ sake, we are living in a new millennium. We should know better. But these marketing creatives perhaps would like us to behave as some cave-dwelling Neanderthals.
For Adults, Too
People who are honest enough readily admit that the porn industry has been one of the driving forces of the Internet. In fact, I know at least one IT expert who said that the Internet, by its very nature, seems to be designed primarily for the adult market.
Even before consumers got to experience online banking and online purchasing, people had been buying adult video files from online porn stores.
This is especially convenient for people who are rather too embarrassed to be seen visiting their friendly neighborhood porn video shops.
This, on the other hand, makes me wonder how the adult industry would make use of a haptics jacket technology developed by Philips Electronics. This technology is designed to allow movie viewers to actually feel the scenes being depicted by the movie they are watching.
By letting viewers feel anxiety and other emotions through actuators installed in the jacket, the technology offers a full emotional immersion. Imagine wearing this kind of jacket while watching an adult movie.
Life’s Too Short
Suddenly, a Beatles song came to my mind about a couple of nights ago. The song says that life is too short for us to be fighting. Well, watching the evening news on TV would help convince us of the timeliness of the song’s message.
One moment, people are driving their cars or motorcycles. A few minutes later, these souls are gone. It can be scary, I know.
On the other hand, it should encourage us to readily express our love and affection for people we love. Let not petty quarrels keep us apart. Let not our foolish pride keeps us from saying we care for and love those who are close to our hearts.
That’s all for the meantime, folks. Join me again next time as we keep on watching IT and some other things.
