BuCor eyes deal with PNPA on housing, livelihood for soon-to-be-released PDLs

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) is eyeing an agreement with the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) on the provision of housing and livelihood to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who are about to be released.
Corrections Chief Supt. Julie May C. Taguiam, head of BuCor’s public information office (PIO), said the bureau had earlier forged the same agreement with the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio City.
Now, Taguiam said, BuCor’s has about 90 soon-to-be-released PDLs in PMA.
She said the possible agreement with PNPA was discussed by BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag during his visit to his alma mater last Thursday, Sept. 22.
“Under negotiation pa lang (It is under negotiation),” Taguiam, a lawyer, said.
“Pinag-aaralan ng legal team if possible ba na mabigyan namin sila ng PDLs sa PNPA at dun na mai-house ang mga ito, as strategy sa decongestion (the legal team is studying if it is possible to house PDLs at the PNPA as part of decongestion efforts),” she explained.
“Tinitingnan pa lang po if baka pwede din sa PNPA (We are still studying if this arrangement can also be done with the PNPA),” she said.
