TRAP revamps triathlon team
The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) recently revamped its national training team in preparation for three major tournaments next year.
TRAP president Tom Carrasco said they have divided the RP training pool into two groups, with the first team to undergo an isolated and more intense training at the Subic camp in Olongapo City.
Members of the second team will also have to train full-time but outside the training camp.
The RP first squad is composed of Doha Asian Gamer Lea Coline Langit, Kim Mangrobang, Monica Torres, Neil Catiil, Carlo Pedregosa and Roel Ordoño.
The second team is bannered by veteran George Vilog, who decided to train for long-distance triathlon outside the camp and junior triathlete Joash Serrano, who trains in Manila as he intends to finish his studies.
TRAP also recruited Mirasol Abad, a former member of the RP dragonboat squad who now trains with the first team.
Asian Games veteran Sandra Araullo, SEAG medalist Fil-Am Arland Macasieb and Mimi Lucas were not part of the team anymore as they decided to push through with their respective careers outside sports.
Carrasco said the new set-up will enable the association to focus more on full-time athletes as they are being groomed to compete in next year’s Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, the Asian Beach Games in Muscat, Oman and the Asian Championships in South Korea.
