Of Macs and Tux
My top Twitter buddies
Twitter users follow people for all sorts of reasons. I follow them more for the information that they share, rather than the stories they tell. With the media coverage Twitter is getting, more people are using it as an information fire-hose -- even beating the mainstream news network at disseminating news. So, who are the folks that I follow? Listing it here, but in no particular order.
1. Robert Scoble (@scobleizer). An ex-Microsoft blogger who now works for Rackspace. His coverage of technology provides you an insight of things to come. Just love how he pitches new, soon-to-be-launched products.
2. Chris Anderson (@TEDChris). The curator of TED. Need I say more about TED? :)
3. IntoMobile (@IntoMobile). An outlet for mobile news. If you are into mobile devices, applications, etc., you can’t go wrong with the news you get from this Twitter account.
4. Jim Grisanzio (@jimgris). You want to know more about OpenSolaris? This is the guy to follow. He is based in Tokyo, so you get lots of OpenSolaris activities in Japan covered but all is well.
5. Lucy Gray (@elemenous). If you are an educator, you should follow her. She’s a fellow Apple Distinguished Educator and provides lots of new ideas on using technology in education.
6. TUAW.com (@tuaw). The Unofficial Apple Weblog twitter outlet. Any news about the Mac, iPhone and iPod, you get it here.
7. Matt Thompson (@DeveloperFish). He used to be the Director for Technology Outreach of Sun Microsystems, Inc., and now has a new role that makes him in charge of some of the cool Sun stuff on cloud computing, developer tools, etc. Where do you think did we get our JEDI inspiration from? :)
8. Joel Suplido (@jsuplido) - a friend from my stint at the Ateneo High School. We have quite a number of things in common - educator, Mac user, gadget lover. :) He is now in Guam so Twitter is one way for us to keep in touch, in addition to our blogs, social networking sites and Pinoymac.org.
9. Martin Gonzalvez (@g0nz) - one of the few Filipino Mac Genius. Gonz is now working for Apple corporate and has been a source of knowledge about a lot of things Mac (of course!) and other technologies.
10. Jerome Gotangco (@jeromegotangco) - one of the few important Filipinos in the Ubuntu community. His involvement in tech - software engineering, open source, software as a service, gadgets, Macs, you name, he probably knows it. :)
11 - 14. Myra Jill Siason (@majill), Rowena Solamo (@wengs), Mark Benedict Uy (@macoy), Jaime DL Caro (@jdlcaro) - my UP colleagues and comrade-in-arms! If you wish to know a lot about technology and education, follow them! :)
15. Art Samaniego (@artsamaniego) - Manila Bulletin TechNews editor. If you want to get a peek of what tech product is being launched locally, his tweets will give you just that.
16. Google News (@googlenews) - a robot that churns out the latest headline news from all over the world. What more can you ask for? :)
17. UPCS (@upcs) - the UP Computer Science twitter presence. You’d hear the latest announcements from the department from this account.
18. Pinoy Tech Podcast (@techpodcast) - if you are a subscriber of the Pinoy Tech Podcast, then you should follow this as well -- to find out more about the upcoming episodes.
19. Java Education & Development Initiative (@JavaEdu) - the source of all news about Java technology from the JEDI folks.
20. Miguel Paraz (@mparaz) - the ultimate geek! (peach, Migs!) Known this guy to be a techie ever since his college days in Ateneo. Now a big time software architect (read: hacker), you’d find this tweets entertaining, specially if you are a geek yourself.
These are just SOME of my Twitter buddies. There are more but I’d rather reserve them for another article.
