SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga – The Central Luzon regional office of the Department of Tourism (DoT) here, in collaboration with the regional office of the Department of Health (DoH), will conduct the 1st Influenza A (H1N1) Simulation Exercise on May 29 at Marlim Mansions Hotel in Angeles City.

“The exercise is in line with the thrust of the national government in raising widespread awareness on the public health crisis known as the Influenza A (H1N1),” DoT regional director Ronaldo Tiotuico said.

Tiotuico said that the workshop is meant to establish across industry information and messaging system on the current crisis involving H1N1 virus.

The regional director added that they want to encourage tourism integration into the national and local emergency preparedness plans and at the same time raise the preparedness level of tourism stakeholders through role playing or simulation workshops.

The workshop is open to all tourism-related establishments such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, travel agencies, and private stakeholders including tourism organizations, tourists, government officials, media practitioners, and representatives from health and agriculture departments.

The workshop will open with a discussion on the impact of the health crisis on the tourism industry, an introduction on the disease itself, World Health Organization and World Tourism Organization updates, and finally a roundtable discussion by sub-groups on prepared scenarios focused on the various stages of the emergency.

Participants of the simulation seminar will be tasked to address issues and concerns poised by the possible scenarios. This is to be followed by a plenary session or presentation by sub-groups.
