The Senate and multi-sectoral groups cry foul after the House of Representatives passes controversial Resolution 1109 calling for Constitutional amendment via Constituent Assembly.

Cha-cha Con-Ass smells and it’s apparently bad for our health!

***

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and other senators say the move prescribing that the two houses of Congress vote on Cha-cha Con-Ass jointly instead of separately is “ a joke and an illegal act.”

The Senate and the country can take a joke but not an illegal act, he-he!

***

The Opposition denounces the undue haste with which House administration allies passed the measure, with UNONCR chairman J.V. Ejercito saying that the cronies acted “like thieves in the night.”

Aha, you mean the house is full of “anay” or “Akyat-bahay”?

***

Sen. Mar Roxas stages a “Bawang protest” vs what he calls as “Con-Asswang”.

Mr. Padyak turns albularyo to stress his point. Bawang at padyak laban sa Con-ass!

***

Multi-sectoral groups say in a joint statement, “We call on the people, on people’s organizations and the opposition to unite to oppose and defeat this anti-democratic and self-serving move on the part of Malacañang and its cohorts in the House of representatives.”

Here comes the tempest! Plus Oplan Blacklist for 2010, tsk-tsk.

Lawyers Oliver and Evangeline Lozano petition the Supreme Court to nullify Resolution 1109, alleging that it was railroaded to extend the term of President GMA beyond 2010 and unconstitutional for deviating from the amendatory process and sidetracking the Senate.

Bogus or unconstitutional, assert Oliver et.al.

***

But Speaker Prospero Nograles says he is ready to face public scorn if only to convince the Supreme Court to step in and make a clear interpretation of the amendatory provision of the Constitution.

Time for SC to rule, says Popoy. Payback time for the speakership, say his critics.

Malacañang downplays Cha-cha Con-Ass brouhaha and assures anew that there will be elections in 2010.

“(But) a parliamentary election is an election,” retorts and warns former Senate President Frank Drilon.

Meanwhile, Transparency International announces that more than three-fourths of Filipinos believe that the present anti-corruption initiatives are “ineffective.”

Corruption rules! Remedy ASAP!

Heavy rains have started pouring, signaling the beginning of the rainy season.

With the heavens starting to cry, floods and landslides can’t be far behind. Whew!
