When "UPCAT" screens at the IndieSine of the Robinsons Galleria from June 10 to 16, everybody will witness the emergence of actor Felix Roco in A acting form!

Getting more recognition by being one of the new leading men in local independent and digital films, the son of multi-awarded and respected veteran actor Bembol Roco, Felix (who has a twin, Dominic) was introduced in 2004 in the Star Cinema hit “Otso Otso Pamela-Mela Wan” of director Jerry Lopez-Sineneng (“Soltera,” “Ngayong Nandito Ka”).

Felix enraptured audience when he topbilled the movie “Desaparecidos” of Joel Lamangan and is set to give another strong performance in “Engkuwentro” of debuting director Pepe Diokno for the 5th Cinemalaya Film Festival. Both are socio-political movies. But like any new teen, 2005 placed him in the reality romance elimination show “QPids” with partner Isabel Blaesi. With a handsome face and the spell of sexy innocence, he became a member of the boyband-cum-calendar boys named Studs along with JC Cuadrado, Mike Tan, Dion Ignacio, Kevin Santos and Coco Martin.

But it’s the Cinema One Original movie "UPCAT" of director Carlo Roman Olivarez and writers Inna Miren Salazar and Alfred Geoffrey Reyes that is Felix Roco’s most marked and memorable film to date. Because in "UPCAT" not only does Felix slither seamlessly into his character, he wonderfully shows the hopes and dreams, excitement and anxiety highschool senior Lucas has in his personal journey to pass the entrance exam Filipinos to this day consider the ultimate, pursue college in the University of the Philippines and be assured of a bright future. Felix Roco embodies the persona of Lucas with naturalness that is simultaneously amusing, fun, real and very relatable to. Thus ushers us to the movie’s catchly taglines “Ito ang kuwento ng mga Sukatan, Pasikatan at Shaded Circles. Ito ang Kuwentong UPCAT ni Lucas.”

"UPCAT" gave Felix Roco his first acting nomination in the Best Actor Category in the 2008 Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival. Opening with a rocker style vignette to introduce its cast of characters that includes Hiyasmin “Yas” Neri, Joseph Roble, Mark Gil and Bembol Roco. "UPCAT" follows the personal journey of lower working class Lucas who along with his close buddy Joaquin, make initial preparations to pass the UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Entrance Test) for they believe passing it and an education in the State University will secure their future. Plus, it will fulfill their own personal goals as Lucas will get much closer to the girl he is in love with and prove his worth to her family who are all UP grads. Little do they know that this experience will give them new roads to tread and further open their minds to more important things in life and set their priorities. The movie garnered great support, a jampacked premiere screening at the Cine Adarna Theater of the UP Film Institute at the UP Diliman. It also became the top grosser in last year’s festival. Various Internet blogs and websites rave over it. Peyups website blogger named n3x exclaims “I Love Felix!” referring to his performance on talking about the movie. Blogger kaprengbabyface observes “in fairness okey si Felix Roco ha,” while reviewer-blogger chriax06 in her Multiply.com site gave the movie four stars and describes it “ang astig. Nakaka-relate ako kaya nakaka-enjoy siya panoorin.” Gen Gonzales in her blog website Genworld raves that “Felix Roco’s character was well portrayed for it comes out naturally.” Therefore, "UPCAT" gives Felix Roco the grade A for Actor!
