SOLSONA, Ilocos Norte — Police authorities here are trying to determine the cause of death of Efren Ballesteros, a retired soldier of the Philippine Air Force, who was allegedly shot and killed inside his house in Barangay Capurictan, this town.

Chief Inspector Julius Niegos, municipal police chief, said yesterday the victim’s wife Criselda had conflicting versions on her husband’s death.

"First, she admitted shooting her husband due to jealousy, but later she claimed the victim had committed suicide," Niegos said.

The victim suffered a bullet in the chest. He was probably shot at close range, initial investigation indicated.
