CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) announced Wednesday that it will conduct a series of public consultations to review the current minimum wage level in the region.
(MANILA BULLETIN)
DOLE-Mimaropa Acting Regional Director Albert E. Gutib said the prevailing minimum wage in the region was still pegged at P320-a-day for establishments with 10 workers and above and P294-per-day for those with nine employees and below.
Gutib said the said minimum wage is contained in a wage order issued on November 27, 2018, and took effect 15 days after publication in a national broadsheet.
Under existing guidelines, a wage order may only be disturbed after 12 months of its effectivity.
The DOLE official said the probability of raising the wage rate is just proper but it will depend on the outcome of the public consultations.
Meanwhile, the DOLE regional office has assisted at least 29 workers from January to middle of February this year for their settlement requests in their previous employment with a total amount of P449,900.12.
Eleven workers who were separated from a water-refilling station were able to receive their claims for underpaid wages and separation pay in the total amount of P115,000, after holding three conferences in the office facilitated by Single Entry Assistance Desk Officer (SEADO) Gener L. Francisco.
A baker and two bakery staff were also able to receive their unpaid claims and overtime pay from their employer amounting to P16, 284 while a separated agency employee who worked as a merchandiser in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro also received his claims from his agency amounting to P20, 095.31 as payment for his Service Incentive Leave and 13th-month pay, the DOLE said.
