VIGAN CITY — Vigan City Mayor Eva Marie Singson Medina had launched a unique program that strengthens communication links of the local folks with their relatives abroad.

The program, called “Vigan OFW Love Links,” utilizes advance communications technology like Internet and web camera so it would be easier for the OFWs and the residents in Vigan to communicate with each other.

“Through this program, with the aid of Internet and web camera, our constituents are able to talk personally to their relatives in any part of the world at any time provided Internet signals are available,” Mayor Medina said.

Under this program, the city government distributed initial seven units of desktop computers with complete accessories, including web cam and Internet access, to the seven barangay presidents of the Vigan City Association of OFW Family Circle, Inc.

The turnover ceremony was held last Monday in front of City Hall. These barangay presidents of the OFWs family groups will serve as the caretaker of the computer set for use of the residents who have relatives overseas and the students.

The city government had paid in advance the one-month Internet bill for each computer set, she said.

To maintain the operations of the program, a minimal cost will be collected from the users of the computers, she said.

“These computer sets are limited for communicating of our constituents to their relatives abroad and conducting educational research for our students,” the lady mayor said.
