Pilar is now a peaceful municipality
PILAR, Bataan – This once troubled town in Bataan is now one of the most peaceful areas in the region.
Pilar’s tag as the center for prostitution and illegal drugs activities is now a thing of the past. The police had been successful in the campaign to rid the town of almost all criminal activities, organized crimes, proliferation of illegal drugs and prostitution, among others, since Mayor Charlie Pizarro, a known anti-illegal drug advocate, took over the helm of the municipal government a few years ago.
“Drug pushers and prostitutes have no more place in Pilar, as we were able to neutralize and drive them away, and the criminals themselves know that they have no more room in this town,” said Inspector Edgardo Bernardo, a junior police officer who is a recipient of various awards and citations for his devotion to duty, outstanding performance, and loyalty to the public and the police organization.
In the past, the mere mention of Pilar town reminded one of prostitution dens in Barangay Sta. Rosa, which was also once known as the center of illegal drugs in Bataan. Killings in the past appeared to be routine in the barangay.
Lt. Bernardo attributed the restored peace and order in Pilar town to Mayor Pizarro who has been providing full support for the police campaign against crimes, illegal drugs, and other vices.
“Kundi sa mga suporta ni Mayor Charlie ay hindi rin kami masyadong makagalaw, salamat na lamang at buo ang kanyang suporta at pagtitiwala sa pulis,” Bernardo said.
Due to the peace and order prevailing here, Pilar is fast becoming the center of commerce and education with the establishment of the government center and elite schools, among others.
