Gazelle Canlas speed talks her way to success!

Looks can be deceiving and for Gazelle Canlas, one of Q Channel 11’s newest VJs, she knows that to be true especially in her case.
At first glance, people who don’t know her personally would see her as a teenager and that she could be a shy person. But the truth is that she is already a graduate from Miriam College with a degree in Mass Communication, is already 25 years old but blessed with a youthful look. And most especially she is witty and a speed talker!
“When they first see me, they’d think I’m timid but once they start talking to me, they get surprised,” she smiled.
Like her name Gazelle (a speedy animal), she is fast and loves to talk. In fact her knack for talking has paved the way for her to become one of Q Channel 11’s latest VJs.
“I actually was part of the debate team in high school at the Faith Christian School. And when I was in college, I hosted a radio show in school and that’s when I knew I could do hosting,” shared Gazelle of her experiences that led her to TV hosting.
What led to her discovery though was her new show that’s always posted on YouTube.
“I have a show called ‘Say Wuht’ which was produced by my good friend Aby Asistio because ever since, my skill has been talking. And that’s the reason why I talk so fast,” she explained.
According to her, she and her producer/friend Aby would invite their celebrity friends. On the show, they would give her a word and she would speed talk about it.
“The response was insane... because of that show, TV 5 asked me to join one of their shows and now I’m a VJ at QTV,” she quipped.
What also honed her talking skills could be her membership to the theatrical comedy improve group called Bitaw. She has gotten in by showcasing her talent in speed talking.
But Gazelle said it’s not all about speed talk. She has dabbled in other activities such as acting, modeling and even dancing. She was part of Palmolive Circle of 10 and is very much into Hip Hop.
“Dancing is one of my passions and my forte is hip hop. So I really try and keep updated about. For me, it is music but my taste is very eclectic. Sometimes, I’ll be in the mood for hip hop, sometimes country music,” she related. “But my focus ever since has been acting and hosting!”
As an actress, she has appeared in “One More Chance” and in the indie film with Jao Mapa entitled “Lumang Kahoy.”
“I began acting in college and I was a member of Teatro Kolehiyo ng Miriam and I was part of free theater for the poor. From there I thought I’d venture into TV so I was able to do cameos for a while... the thing I like about acting is that I enjoy doing extreme roles!”
In “Lumang Kahoy” she describes her character as being transformed into a tree with prosthetic make-up like the character of Mystique in the “X Men” film except that she’s brown. She described the film as a sci-fi flick wherein she is the last living tree but is a mutant, too.
“I would spend six hours every costume change but I enjoy it,” she remarked.
So what are her expectations as a VJ?
“It’s going to be fun. The reason I feel motivated is exactly the job. It’s a freeing job like you’re not tied to a desk. Some people are built for that and some aren’t,” she replied.
Vibrant and spirited, Gazelle is the type who wants to try a lot of things and who wants to achieve other things. In fact, if she is not modeling, acting or talking, she is baking. She is also an entrepreneur who loves baking and she has established “Mama Made It.”
“Ever since I was a kid I’ve been really fascinated with baking. I used to just do it for my friends and then I turned it into a business. Although I don’t have a real store, I just supply to cafés and restaurants. I have a secret recipe,” she said.
According to her, the cookies she bakes are softer, chewier and cheaper than Mrs. Fields cookies. And when her friends tasted her cookies, they exclaimed just like how you’re mama made it. And that’s how she got the name for her business.
So what’s her goal?
“I look forward to having my own show. It’s one of my dream goals!
That said, Gazelle Canlas is one speed talker and VJ ON THE RISE!
