Briton killed
KALIBO, Aklan – Homicide investigators are looking into the killing of a British national, who survived an assassination attempt three months before, by unknown assailants who broke into his house Sunday morning.
Paul Anthony Roberts, 61, sustained multiple knife wounds in the neck. He was attacked while sleeping in his bedroom at No. 65 Purok 2, Barangay Tinigaw, Kalibo police chief Senior Insp. Arnolito Laguerta said.
Investigation revealed that the victim was also hit in the head by a hard object. Roberts’ wife Amy was spared but she was hogtied by the suspects.
The couple’s maid and son Daniel Paul sought the help of Tinigaw barangay captain Wilna Jizmundo through text message at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Jizmundo and his son Leonilo rushed to the scene and untied Roberts’ wife. Amy, in a state of shock, was brought to a local hospital for treatment.
The wife and the maid were invited later to the Kalibo police station to issue statements on the killing.
Supt. Georby Manuel, chief of Scene of the Crime Operation, described the killing as a robbery with homicide.
"We did not find forcible entry in the crime scene, especially in the kitchen. We also lifted latent prints in the telephone and in the chair beside the body of Roberts. We
could not still establish the number of suspects,” he told the reporters in a press conference in Barangay Tinigaw.
Manuel said the jewelry box and attache case of Roberts were scattered in the bedroom.
