Red Mobile targets 1 million subscribers
Red Mobile, the country’s newest pre-paid network, has already hauled in 100,000 subscribers and targets 1 million subscribers by the end of 2009, according to Smart Department Head for Red Mobile Guido R. Zaballero.
Red Mobile is the brand name operated by Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise Inc. (CURE), a 100 percent owned subsidiary of Smart Communications Inc.
Red Mobile is also Smart’s third brand positioned for consumer segments catering to the voice and texting needs of Filipinos and is already becoming popular for its affordable video calling services.
Starting this Saturday, Red Mobile is offering the country’s lowest call rate of 50 centavos per minute for all Red-to-Red voice and video calls on its 2nd Generation (2G) network for as low as a P30 top-up good for 2 days.
The P30 load offering is valid for both 2G and 3G calls, requires no registration and is consumable to the last centavo, giving the subscriber the flexibility to make a phone call or send a text message, Red-to-Red, or even to another network.
The market for 2G remains to be huge. Of the 55 million mobile phone handsets in the country todate, over 10 Million are 2nd Generation handsets.
Furthermore, “By making our service available on 2G and using the nationwide network of Smart, the country’s leading wireless services provider, we are making value-for-money services more accessible to the increasingly mobile Filipino,” according to Orlando B. Vea, Smart’s Chief Wireless Advisor.
In April this year, Smart purchased CURE to expand its 3rd Generation (3G) service and rollout higher speed wireless broadband services.
