Tropical cyclone warning Signal No. 1 has been raised over four provinces in Mindanao, as the fast-moving cyclone with international name “Sanba” threatens to make landfall over Caraga Region by tomorrow or Tuesday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the cyclone at 1,070 kilometers (km) east of Mindanao or still outside the country’s area of responsibility around 3 p.m. today.

Should it maintain its current west-northwest movement at 27 kilometers per hour (kph), the cyclone will be inside the country’s vicinity between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. today, said PAGASA forecaster Robb Gile.
Gile said the cyclone will be given a local name of “Basyang” once inside the country’s area of responsibility.
It has further intensified into a tropical storm packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
The storm is moving relatively fast and is expected to make landfall over Caraga Region between tomorrow evening and Tuesday morning, Gile said.
This has prompted PAGASA to raise cyclone warning Signal No. 1 over Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Dinagat Island this afternoon.
The trough or advancing clouds of the cyclone was expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Region as early as today.
By tomorrow morning, PAGASA said the tropical depression is expected at 550 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and by Tuesday morning, it will be in the vicinity of Butuan City.
The tropical cyclone will bring moderate to at times heavy rains over Eastern Mindanao and southern part of Eastern Visayas by tomorrow.
The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms, while northern and central Luzon, and Bicol Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers.
The rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains.
By Tuesday, PAGASA said moderate to occasional heavy rains is expected over northern part of Mindanao and southern part of Visayas.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao, while Luzon will be cloudy with scattered rains.
By Wednesday morning, the cyclone is expected at 185 km southeast of Puerto Princesa City.
PAGASA said Western Visayas including Palawan will experience moderate to occasional heavy rains, while the rest of Visayas and Mindanao is expected to have an improved weather condition.
However, Luzon will still be cloudy with scattered rains, and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains.
