A Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) News post said activities for the celebration will be finalized by the Church leaders during their three-day assembly at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center in Manila.
The CBCP is currently composed of 134 members— 83 of them are active, 3 are administrators, and 45 are retired from 86 ecclesiastical jurisdictions.
The theme for the 2021 jubilee will be “Gifted to Give.” In 2012, the local Church launched a nine-year spiritual journey for the New Evangelization with a different theme for each year to prepare the faithful for 2021. This year is observed as the Year of the Youth.
CBCP secretary general Fr. Marvin Mejia said that aside from the upcoming historic event, environmental concerns will also be tackled during the gathering. “The conference has invited experts to discuss environmental issues with the bishops. There will be a talk on current environmental issues, on what happened to our beautiful land. We need to take a look into that,” Mejia said.
The CBCP usually issues a pastoral statement at the conclusion of its biannual plenary assembly.
