Kris and Aljur, Maryo J’s favorite love team

After the successful “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin,” the GMA-7 afternoon drama series of love team Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica helmed by Maryo J. Delos Reyes, the three are reunited in Regal Entertainment’s upcoming romantic flick shot in Bohol – “I’ll Be Waiting For You.”
“I’ll Be Waiting For You” is also Kris and Aljur’s official launching movie contrary to perception that their first movie tandem was “Loving You,” also under Regal Entertainment, that featured two other love teams. Because of the success of their TV projects, Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Entertainment decided to launch them on the silver screen.
As for Maryo J. Delos Reyes, the Kris and Aljur love team has become his favorite pair!
“I see in them a big potential for a strong love team. They remind me of the Maricel Soriano and William Martinez love team. May rapport sila. They are easy to work with na hindi katulad ng iba na maraming pretentions. Kasi sila naka-focus sila on being a love team,” he explained.
The director is also proud that Kris and Aljur separate their personal lives from their profession. Whether rumors are true or not about their off-screen relationship, what is more important for Maryo is that they perform well in their respective roles.
“They deliver what you want. Sila timplado na and I feel they are a strong love team. And so far yung mga pinuntahan namin kilala sila. Ang take-off pa nga yung mga characters nilang Myrna and Lito from ‘Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin,” he described.
In fact Maryo pointed out how much the two have invested in terms of effort and hard work into their professions. Before leaving for Bohol to shoot “I’ll Be Waiting For You” for three weeks, Kris and Aljur taped for one straight week for their early primetime series entitled “All My Life” on GMA-7. The two even got sick when they arrived in Bohol that the director opted to give them a day’s rest before commencing principal photography.
Compared to their past soap operas, they will also have lots of tender scenes in their movie but not as husband and wife but as two people getting to know each other.
“I actually always remind them if they’re becoming too comfortable with each other in their scenes. Dapat kasi nagpapakiramdaman pa lang sila. So it’s a different flavor because ‘Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin’ is like teenage marriage ‘yun,” he pointed out.
Written by Jake Tordesillas, “I’ll Be Waiting For You” is about the whirlwind romance of Kris Bernal and Baron Geisler in San Francisco where they met. They decided to come home and get married in Bohol. Baron meets his half-brother Aljur Abrenica for the first time when they got home from the States. Unfortunately, Aljur became the reason for Kris to have second thoughts about marrying Baron. Thus, the conflict begins.
The sub-plot of the film is in Aljur’s mother Ana Capri who doesn’t only sell herbs in Quiapo but unknown to Aljur has been a courier for illegal drugs. Ana then escapes with Aljur to Bohol carrying the mob’s money and is being hunted by Carlo Aquino who also plays another drug pusher. Also in the movie are Valeen Montenegro, Anton Bernardo, Gerald Madrid, Gene Pastrano and Lloyd Samartino.
So why choose Bohol for his film’s location?
“Iba-ibang kasi ang pwedeng location sa Bohol. It’s filled with a lot of beautiful places. Our movie will show scenic spots like the Baclayon Church, Chocolate Hills and Luboc River among others,” smiled Maryo.
Maryo also revealed that “I’ll Be Waiting For You” is also the first time that he is working with a big cast compared to his past Aiko Melendez and Jomari Yllana film.
