The Mandaluyong City Public Information Office (PIO) announced Monday night that the Mandaluyong Liberation Ball and the awarding ceremonies for the Top Ten Taxpayers and Ulirang Mandaleño scheduled on Thursday will be postponed to a later date.
“We will be sending immediately an official invitation once the date is finalized,” the PIO said.
On Sunday, Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos announced that the Liberation Day Commemorative Program, Liberation Day Parade, and the Liberation Concert scheduled on February 9 will be postponed.
Jimmy Isidro, Abalos’ chief of staff, told the Manila Bulletin that the postponement of the activities was one of the precautionary measures implemented by the city government against nCoV ARD.
“The said events will not push through on Sunday because of the threat of the disease, considering the volume of people expected to attend the activities,” Isidro said.
On February 9, Mandaluyong City will mark the 75th year of its liberation from Japanese occupation during World War II.
Coinciding with the celebration is the 26th year since former President Fidel Ramos officially converted Mandaluyong to a city through Republic Act No. 7675 in 1994.
