San Sebastian College is getting better and hotter each game.

With their firepower in full display, the SSC Stags roared to their 6th straight win by dumping Angeles University Foundation, 97-65, to grab the solo lead on Monday in the 85th NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Proving superior on all fronts, the Stags turned the game into a virtual work out, leading 37-7 in the first canto before rocketing to a 53-21 halftime lead that all but settled the issue.

Sweet-shooting guard Jimbo Aquino made a fitting sequel to his 27-point performance against Arellano the last time out by leading the Stags anew with 21 points on an impressive 8-of-13 shooting from the field.

Four other players scored in double digits to highlight the Stags awesome offensive as Pamboy Raymundo, Gilbert Bulawan, Ian Sangalang and Dave Najorda chalked up 16, 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Erickson Gatchalian’s jumper gave the Stags a 53-point advantage, 72-29, early in the third period as the Great Danes dropped to their fifth loss in six outings.

“I’m very happy for the boys. Nagbubunga na kasi ang paghihirap nila sa practice,” said SSC mentor Ato Agustin, whose team is expected to have its hands full when it meets last year’s runner up Jose Rizal University on Monday.

Earlier, Emilio Aguinaldo College exploited the ejection of two big guns of the College of St. Benilde in the second quarter to hack out a 78-73 win in a game marred by a near free-for-all.

The Blazers lost John Tan and Chuck Dalanon in the middle of the second quarter after they were thrown out of the game for figuring in a bench-clearing incident.

John Santos churned out 18 points on three-of-four shooting from beyond the arc, while Claude Cubo fired 17 markers on top of 13 rebounds as the Generals scored their second straight victory after dropping their first four outings.

The Generals barged into the win column last week at the expense of Mapua, 80-69.

“Our first victory became our motivation to win again. Tinanong namin 'yung mga players kung kuntento na ba kami sa unang panalo namin?” said EAC assistant coach Gino Manuel in the post game interview in lieu of head coach Nomar Isla who went straight to the airport after the game.

Protecting a slim 67-66 lead midaway of the fourth quarter, the Generals pulled away for good when the Ruel Jabaybay’s jumper ignited an 8-2 run.

Jabaybay, who finished with 12 points, actually scored six in that spurt that put the Generals up, 75-68, time down to 2:30.
