So often has it been said that the world has a tale of two economies – the big-company economy and the entrepreneurial economy. Stories have been told and retold about the comedy, the tragedy, and the history of these two economies. But it is the stories of entrepreneurial achievement that has captured the fascination and interest of many. Stories about the astounding determination of entrepreneurs in the face of obstacles, setbacks, and catastrophes.

Their ability to start with little or nothing and generate profits and products. During the best of times…during the worst of times.

Many studies have been made to find out what makes entrepreneurs bold and daring. What is in them that makes them believe in their ability to influence events and shape the future. The answer is simple. They first believe and then they see. The vision of the entrepreneur is the critical factor that differentiates them from others.

More important than money or management or market. In short, vision is the driving, compelling
and sustaining force that motivates the entrepreneurs.

Many have attempted to define the vision of an entrepreneur. Some think that this refers to a dream where one wants to be. It is actually more than a dream. It is a force that guides the thinking and directs the behavior of an entrepreneur.

Some call it the sixth sense or gut feel. Whatever it is, it is an unseen thing that influences the behavior of an entrepreneur.

Today, people from all sectors of society all around the world are launching all kinds of entrepreneurial ventures. Thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs referred to as entrepreneur wannabes. Especially those who are retiring from regular employment or those who no longer find challenge in their jobs. They make that leap from current employment into the uncertain world of business.

Many of the entrepreneur wannabes end up developing enterprises that are essential to their community’s well being. They are called lifestyle entrepreneurs. Small eateries, coffee shops, craft stores and other enterprises that have an impact on the lifestyle of people. The dramatic rise in the number of lifestyle entrepreneurs here and abroad is unprecedented.

No wonder the range and scope of entrepreneurial opportunities have been widening. And why not. There are many entrepreneurial takers everywhere. Probably challenged by stories of entrepreneurial successes here and there.

One kind of lifestyle entrepreneurs that is emerging nowadays are the so-called web entrepreneurs.

It will be recalled that one of the programs or medium available over the Internet is the World Wide Web sometimes referred to as WWW or W3. The World Wide Web was invented in 1993 by a software engineer and programmer by the name of Tim Berners-Lee.

In the Far Eastern Economic Review, March 27, 2003 issue, appears a feature story about a 29-year old site designer and author by the name of Max Barry from Australia. In his desire to promote his latest book titled Jennifer Government, he e-mailed to his twenty friends the address of a free political-role playing Web Site named Nation States. Nation States is a website where players can imagine themselves to be cyber heads of states and try their skill in running a country of make-believe. Max Barry prepared thirty scenarios where, in the words of the author – “you can create your own country, fashioned after your own political ideals, and care for its people. Either that or you deliberately torture them. Its really
up to you.”

Beyond the expectations of Max Barry, 100,000 people signed up for his book. More interesting though is the fact that there are now 200,000 gamers hooked to his web NationStates. Now Max Barry is in a dilemma. Should he now become a web entrepreneur and develop scenarios other than the thirty scenarios already giving so much entertainment to thousands of people who are addicted his web site NationStates?

The entrepreneurial revolution has touched the lives of millions of people. Hopefully, this article will excite the readers of this column to be enthused with the mystic of entrepreneurship.
