There will be frequent rainshowers and thunderstorms in Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, while these will be experienced occasionally in the rest of the country, the weather forecasters at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Atmospheric Services Administration
(PAGASA) said Friday.

In its tropical cyclone update Friday, PAGASA said the rainy weather was spawned by tropical storm "Jolina," whose center has been spotted at about 490 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 610 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

The national meteorological agency has yet to raise public warning signals in any province because the storm, which has 65 kph strength near the center and a gustiness of about 80 kph, remains at the Philippine sea.

Moving northwest at a speed of 24 kph, Tropical Storm "Jolina" has been expected to reach 440 kilometers northeast of Casiguran in Aurora province or about 350 kilometers east of Aparri in Cagayan Saturday, PAGASA said.

In its forecast, the weather officer added that the storm will continue to enhance the Southwest monsoon and bring occasional to frequent rains that could trigger flashfloods and landslides in western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA also warned of winds with strength of 55 to 73 kph associated with surge of Southwest monsoon, which is expected to affect the western seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.

The weather bureau said communities near the seaboards of Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas will experience occasional to frequent rains and rough to very rough sea conditions with waves reaching four to five meters high.

PAGASA added that residents living near the seaboards of Central and Eastern Visayas as well as Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains.

It assured that the winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest and south with slight to moderate seas except during thunderstorms.
