Al-Suadi tops Open qualifying

United Arab Emirates’ Hussain Al-Suadi lived up to his billing as the best Asian bowler by topping the qualifying round of the Open division of the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic Friday at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl of Robinson’s Mall in Malate.

Al-Suadi rolled a 5153 series over 24 games, ahead of top Filipino bet Chester King, who had a 5112 total.

Singapore’s Ong She-Na was third with 5066 series while becoming the top qualifier in the classified division’s finals.

RP team member Benshir Layoso and Singaporean Remy Ong, both southpaw, tallied 5065 and 5041, respectively, for fourth and fifth places.

The tournament is presented by Euro-Med laboratories and Bevida Drinking Distilled Water and sponsored by Storm products, Roto Grips, Ark International and Wave Products.

Heritage and City Garden are the official hotels, Philippine Airlines the official airline partner and Manila Bulletin the official media partner.

Rounding out the top eight in the finals were Surasak Manuwong of Thailand (5026), Malaysian mainstay Aaron Kong (5022) and Thailand’s Rasut Punsanthaveekul (5009).

Filipino bet Paulo Valdez checked in 4958 and finished ahead of Malaysian Daniel Lim (4951), while other notable players who made the cut were Hong Kong’s Wu Siu Hong, two-time defending champion Syafiq Ridhwan and Hall of Famer Paeng Nepomuceno.

Joining Ong in the classified division’s finals were RP’s Mades Arles (4824), Taiwan’s Chen Po Yu (4820), Singapore’s Jeremy Fang (4785), Guam’s Robert Baker Jr. (4762), Tbam-Prima’s Girlie Solis (4683), PBAP-Bowlmart’s Yap Seok Kim (4671) and Jepoy Mendoza (4633), Singapore’s Andrew Lee (4658) and PTBA’s Charles Tee (4618).

The top 24 in all division will bowl from scratch scores with the top three advancing to the stepladder finals.

Aris Ardilla of Malaysia took the lead in the youth division with a 4825 series, one pin ahead of Mades Arles.

Hong Kong keglers Eric Tseng (4818), Rickie Kam (4767), Michael Mak (4709) and Michael Tsang (4626) took the next four of five slots, while Malaysian Khoo Beng Khai (4740) and Siti Sywazwani (4602) were at fifth and eight places, respectively.

Comple ting the top 10 performers were PBAP-Bowlmart’s Lara Posadas (4591) and TBAM-Prima’s Marvin Reyes (4563).

AMBA’s Ceasar Muere also took the pole position in the senior’s division with a 4612 total, ahead of Hong Kong’s Chung Him, SLETBA’s Mil Tan, PBA’s Philippine Rillorta and PBA-Bowlmart’s Masa Ishizuka.
