Duterte extended his condolences to Suarez's bereaved family, saying he believes in the priest’s healing ministry.
The President likewise noted that he personally witnessed Suarez’s healing prowess once in Davao City.
Suarez suffered from a heart attack while he was playing tennis at the Alabang Country Club Tuesday. He was immediately rushed to the hospital after he collapsed but died on the way there.
It would have been Suarezs 53rd birthday on February 7.
According to President Duterte, he considered Suarez as a friend.
Suarez is known for spearheading faith healing in the country and for founding the Missionaries of Mary Mother of the Poor Congregation (MMMP) that has branches in Batangas, Cebu, and Davao del Norte.
He was cleared by the Vatican from accusations of sexual abuse of minors late December 2019. The case on the alleged crime was submitted by the National Tribunal of Appeals to Rome on May 8, 2019.
