Tropical storm “Jolina” moved away from the Philippines Sunday, but a new low-pressure area (LPA) has formed east of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.

All public storm signals were lowered as of early Sunday morning. At 10 a.m. Sunday, the center of tropical storm “Jolina” was at 540 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Moving west northwest at 26 kilometers per hour (kph), “Jolina,” with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph was forecast to be 680 km west northwest of Laoag City Sunday night.

Meanwhile, the LPA — a raininducing weather system -- was spotted by PAGASA at 750 kms east of northeast of Luzon.

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldzar Aurelio said the LPA is still expected to gain strength while at sea.

The national meteorological agency warned that “Ilocos provinces, La Union and Pangasinan” will experience Monday rains and gusty winds with moderate to rough seas.”

The rest of western Luzon and western Visayas will have occasional rains, while the rest of the country will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with moderate to rough seas.

“Jolina” was the tenth storm to enter the country this year, and the fourth weather disturbance in July.
