Bono’s book

Will the passing of President Aquino spell the obsolescence of Homobono Adaza?

With Cory gone, who will Adaza, the chief troublemaker who was a permanent thorn in the side of the then President and her revolutionary government, sow mischief against? Adaza, shunted, shafted by a post-Marcos Malacañang, is back with a vengeance – a book where he takes a swipe not only at Mrs. Aquino but at practically all the “Leaders from Marcos to Arroyo.”

In the book so titled, published June 2009 by the Alliance for Democratic Action, Adaza spares no one, sinner as well as saint, and minces no words, slicing and dicing with typical Bono humor. A bit of speed reading takes the reader through some of his pungent lines, to wit:

On graft and corruption: “As though it was not a crime to steal stolen money.” On military officers aching to lead the country:

“They are supposed to be military experts, yet they are the geniuses for pulling (sic) failed coup d’etats (sic).” On Marcos: “He had brains in his balls because none among his contemporaries could have declared martial law as he did.”

In the chapter on the Aquino presidency, Mr. Adaza relates: “Cory and the Opposition had an unwritten agreement she would be ceremonial President, like the monarch in Britain while the Prime Minister and the cabinet would govern. As soon as she was installed President, the first thing she forgot was this agreement.”

True or not? The writer does not offer proof or witnesses.

It’s always fun to listen to Mr. Adaza and his I-told-you-so vignettes, narrated from ringside by an iconoclast who describes himself as a dreamer but whose hobby is collecting enemies out of players of the only game, the power game. If he’s so smart, why is he outside the kulambo?

In spite of its title, the book includes a short chapter on the 2009-2010 presidential dreamers. Plus, he has the audacity to wonder if there are 90 other Filipinos who are better qualified, and in the same breath to reveal his own “integrated agenda” for the next President. Didn’t I warn you he’s fun to read?
