The NCAA may not renew its contract with TV coveror Studio 23 next year after the oldest collegiate varsity league expressed disappointment over the failure of the TV station to cover the games last Wednesday.

The Wednesday playdate, featuring the match of three-peat champion San Beda College and Angeles Foundation University, and the duel between Letran and Emilio Aguinaldo College, were reportedly not aired by Studio 23 to give way for the burial of former president Cory Aquino.

NCAA president Fr. Mat De Jesus of Season 85 host San Beda was dismayed.

“Personally, the President Cory Aquino event carried national importance,” De Jesus said. “However, ABS-CBN and Studio 23 could have delayed telecast for fans and schools alike.”

It was the second time the Studio 23, the UHF channel owned by giant network ABS-CBN, to cancel its telecast, the first during the State of the Nation Address of President Arroyo last month.

De Jesus said there’s something wrong with the way ABS-CBN is treating the league.

“It’s one thing to give way once in a while to a national event, it’s another thing to completely disregard scheduled games without even a delayed telecast at a later time,” de Jesus said.
