Four suspected foreign kidnappers died in an encounter with the anti-kidnapping operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu on Monday, May 30.
Police Brig. Gen. Rudolph Dimas, director of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), said the four were tagged in the abduction of their countryman identified as Chinese Lyu Xingou in Barangay Lahug in Cebu City on May 25.
Dimas identified the slain suspects as Jinming Gong, Yiping You, Fengqiang Li, and Heng Lin.
Based on the report, the victim was preparing to report for work at the Mactan Newtown complex in Lapu-Lapu City when he was taken at gunpoint by the said four Chinese kidnappers who boarded a black Toyota Innova with unknown plate number and he was brought to a safe house.
Dimas said the suspects demanded one million Renminbi (roughly P8 million) in exchange for his release. The victim's family, however, only paid half of the ransom demand.
He said the AKG then located the location of the suspects which resulted in the encounter in Barangay Bangkal in Lapu-Lapu City.
"As the operatives were about to enter the house, a fire-fight ensued that led to the death of the suspects and the safe rescue of the victim," said Dimas.
Seized from the crime scene were four short firearms, several ammunitions, a laptop, six cellular phones, cash and other personal belongings of the suspects.
