Pope Francis appoints Apostolic Administrator of Archdiocese of Manila

Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Broderick Pabillo as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila.
The Archdiocese of Manila Office of Communications announced Pabillo's appointment Monday.

Pabillo as the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila," read the Advisory. "He will be mentioned in all Masses at the Eucharistic Prayer, 'and Broderick our Administrator; (Tag.) at ni Broderick na aming Tagapangasiwa," it further read. With his departure, the Archdiocese of Manila is now sede vacante as it awaits its new archbishop. Pabillo will temporarily oversee the affairs of the diocese until a new bishop is appointed by the Pope. The Vatican usually appoints an apostolic administrator to temporarily head a diocese when it becomes vacant, especially if special circumstances surround the ecclesial territory. The 64-year old Pabillo has been serving as auxiliary bishop of Manila since May 2006.
